Romans 10:13-15 And Calling On The Name Of The Lord

Romans 10:13-15 is another passage which proves clearly that salvation does not occur at the point of faith. It reads, "For whosover shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? ..."Notice that verse 13 requires one to "call upon the name of the Lord" to be saved. But notice what is said in verses 14-15. A person can't call upon God unless they believe first (that should be obvious), and a person can't believe on Jesus unless they have heard about Him first, and a person cannot hear without a preacher, and that requires the preacher to be sent. In chronological order then the sequence is first the preacher is sent. He preaches and the candidate hears. Then the candidate believes. And after believing, the candidate calls upon God. Verse 13 says a sinner must "call upon the name of the Lord" to be saved, and verse 14 shows that a sinner can't call upon the Lord for salvation until after he has believed. Salvation then comes after faith, not at the point of faith. It comes when a person calls upon God, which Acts 22:16 shows is when that person is baptized.
