I Cor 7:10 Makes Divorce/Separation Sinful Even If No Remarriage Follows
I Corinthians 7:10 reads “And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband.”It is a command of the Lord Jesus that a woman not depart from her husband - even if she never remarries. Both divorce and marital separation involve departing and therefore are forbidden by this verse. Some argue Paul would not have told the woman what to do (in verse 11) if she departed, unless departing was right. But that unsound logic would make fornication right in Deut 22:28-29, because there a couple is told what to do if they commit fornication.I Cor 7:10 (and Matt 5:32, Matt 19:6, I Cor 7:3-5, and I Pet 3:7a) then prove divorce and/or marital separation are wrong (except for fornication, Matt 19:9) even if no remarriage follows.
