A Football Coach's Definition Of Discipline

According to a 4-8-14 internet article, coach Nick Saban's definition of discipline starts this way: "There's something you know you're supposed to do that you really don't want to do. Can you make yourself do it?" Many Christians are too shy to approach their neighbors, coworkers, friends, and acquaintances with the gospel. We are told never to discuss religion away from church, because conflict can result. As Coach Saban teaches about discipline in football - if we have to, we must "make" ourselves do it. Many passages like Acts 8:4 and Mark 16:15 require each and every Christian to try to reach the lost. Our motivation should be love and concern for their souls - "Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men ..." (II Cor 5:11).Coach Saban continues with his definition: "Then there's something over there that you really shouldn't do, but you really want to do. Can you make yourself not do it?" Paul the apostle stated the same as being essential to remaining saved in I Cor 9:27 - "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway" (reprobate). At least some of the works of the flesh (Gal 5:19-21) are tempting to all of us. Rev 3:5 tells us we must overcome such temptation to keep our names from being blotted out of the book of life - thereby losing our salvation.Do you have enough discipline to be a faithful Christian? It is something we all can work harder at.
