The Parable of the Sower
In Mark 4:3-8 we have recorded the parable of the sower. In Mark 4:13-20 we find Jesus’ explanation of His parable. Described in the parable are four types of ground which represent four types of hearers of God’s word. The point is this: what type of hearer are you?
Are you the ground on the way side? Read Acts 26:26-29 and see that King Agrippa was. The seed, the word of God (Luke 8:11), was sown by Paul, but evidently Satan took the word away as Agrippa stopped short of becoming a Christian. If you have never obeyed the gospel of Jesus, you need to know you are this type of ground!
Maybe you are like the stony ground. Maybe at one time you decided to let Christ live in you (Gal 2:20), but when the going got tough you decided to take the easy route and forsake the Lord. Wouldn’t the description of Peter in Luke 22:54-62 just as well describe you?
Could it be that you are the ground among thorns? Have the things you like and desire in this present world moved away your desire to please Christ? How would you like to meet someone in your company? Meet Demas in II Timothy 4:10.
Hopefully each reader is either in the category of good soil or is making up his mind to so be from this point on. To be fair with Peter, let’s don’t leave him as stony ground. Only good soil could bring forth fruit three thousand fold as is recorded of Peter in Acts 2:41. This is the only type of soil that is going to inherit heaven on the judgement day.
One thing for sure, each and every one of us is one of the four mentioned types of hearers. The obvious question is, "Which type are we?" We do have a choice in the matter. "Choose you this day whom ye will serve" (Joshua 24:15); whether it be Satan the destroyer or God your creator!
