First Day Of The Week Collection
I Corinthians 16:1-2 reads "Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come."There were at least two reasons for the above injunction:. God wants the church collection to be done on the first day of the week. The congregation was already meeting anyway on the first day of the week to eat the Lord's Supper together and have preaching (Acts 20:7)Notice this worship activity was to occur on what we call Sunday - not the Sabbath (Saturday) or any other day of the week.We have New Testament command and example for First Day Christian worship, but not for the Sabbath.
