Is Divorce Without Remarriage Sin? - Some Crucial Comparisons To Matthew 5:32

A number of gospel preachers (Mike Willis for example) say a Christian can divorce their spouse for reasons other than fornication as long as they don’t remarry. But let’s notice a couple of crucial comparisons to help us to see that Matthew 5:32 refutes their claim.John 3:5 reads “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” I think we all understand that if there is another way of entering heaven in addition to being born of water (baptism), then John 3:5 is not true.Matthew 19:9a says “Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery.” Even Mike Willis can see that if there is another ground for putting away one's spouse and marrying another in addition to fornication, then Matthew 19:9 is not true.Matthew 5:32a reads “whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery.” Based upon the same logic we noted regarding the previous two verses - if there is another ground for putting away one's spouse period (even without remarriage) in addition to fornication, then Matthew 5:32 is not true.The remarriage of the one doing the putting away is not mentioned in Matthew 5:32. It condemns divorce by itself.  That is the force of the exception clause.
