Does The Bible Authorize A Woman Confessing Christ Or Her Sins In The Church Assembly?

Many who understand I Corinthians 14:34-35 correctly to forbid a woman teaching in the church assembly nonetheless assume it is okay for her to confess Christ (Rom 10:9-10) or her sins (James 5:16) in such circumstance. But I Cor 14:34-35 forbids that also - on the same basis.Our text commands women to “keep silence in the churches” in the sense that “it is not permitted unto them to speak.” It goes on to say “it is a shame for women to speak in the church.” And so the passage is not just forbidding the woman from teaching over the man (as I Tim 2:11-12 is), instead I Cor 14:34-35 is telling her “not … to speak” period. And that is why it is unscriptural for a woman to confess Christ or her sins in the church assembly.This is verified by the beginning of verse 35 which instructs her to ask her husband if she “will learn any thing.” Asking a question to learn is not placing one’s self into a leadership role, yet the woman is still restricted from asking.Besides, there is no requirement for a woman to confess in the assembly. The eunuch’s confession in Acts 8:37 was only to Philip, and of course it was eminently scriptural.Conclusion: Only the men should speak in church. The woman is not to take even a submissive speaking role, and that would include confessing Christ or her sins. Such should be done … but should be done outside the assembly.
